Abstract: The unmanned test and evaluation of two carbon dioxide scrubbers for use in the standard U.S. Navy double-lock recompression chamber are presented. Tests and evaluations were conducted under the auspices of the Navy Experimental Diving Unit to determine suitability of the Kinergetics Incorporated Scrubber, Model DH-21, and Amron International Diving Supply Scrubber, Model Aqua Breeze II 5000S for use in shore-based and shipboard Navy chambers. Both scrubbers were found suitable for shore-based chamber use after extensive performance, safety, and engineering testing. Due to design deficiencies, the Kinergetics DH-21 was determined inadequate for shipboard use. The Amron Aqua Breeze II was found suitable for shipboard use. The Aqua Breeze II will normally require operation using its two stacked CO2 canister configuration being that the single canister configuration is incapable of maintaining a low chamber CO2 partial pressure with multiple or working chamber occupants.
