Abstract: Modifications of pulmonary function tests have been investigated, by the authors, in a group of 91 patients (age 5021 9; 58 males, 33 females) undergone to HBO therapeutic procedures in a multiplace chamber. VC, RV, FVC, ( in Litres ) ; FEV1, PEF, FEF 2575%. ( in Litres/sec. ) have been measured before and after 20 HBO therapeutic sessions ( at 2.5 ATA, breathing 100 % 0 in mask for 3 periods of 25 min. with 3 intervals of 5 min. breathing air, for 6 days a week ) by a computerized spirometer ( mod. Baires 80-Biomed Padua ) using E.C.S.C. standard. Data have been analyzed using Student's double T test.<table> --, n^0 cases, baseline, after HBO, variation; VC, 91, 3.79±1.09, 3.82±1.02, -0.03±0.28; RV, 65, 1.93±0.64, 1.96±0.62, +0.03±0.40; FVC, 74, 3.54±1.15, 3.57±1,09, +0.03±0.35; FEV1, 77, 2.92±0.99, 2.86±0.92, -0.05±0.35; PEF, 75, 6.45±2.68, 6.49±2.59, +0.04±1.25; FEF 25-75%, 67, 3.36±1.61, 3.16±1.60, -0.20±0.68</table> The statistical analysis not reveal such significance to allow us to say that the modifications of the pulmonary function tests examined, are attributable to HBO pulmonary toxic effect, after 20 sessions performed with the conditions reported above.
