Title: Cognitive Performance during a 1000-Foot Helium Dive.

Abstract: Divers performed three cognitive tasks of six intervals during a saturation dive to a simulated depth of 1000 fsw. Tasks included an associative memory test, an embedded figures test, and a cognitive interference test. Each of the three tests was also administered to a surface control group at intervals approximating those of the experimental group. It appears that helium is not narcotic at 1000 fsw, and that performance variability reflected individual adjustment to the hazardous conditions of the dive. (Author)
