Specialization in nursing is clearly established in the last 30 years. There are 25 different nursing specialities that is organized and recognized members of the National Federation for Specialty Nursing Organization. There are a few more that are newly organized; one whose membership wants and needs to be organized: the Baromedical Nursing Specialization. In the last 15 years, a delimited practice in the Baromedical nursing is starting to emerge. The complexity of knowledge and skills necessary to perform this practice was certainly beyond the prevailing knowledge and skill of general practitioners. This paper presents a historical perspective of, and hopes to give insight to this expanding field of nursing specialization. The need for in-depth understanding of the nursing phenomena related to this segment of practice will be emphasized. |
