Title: [abstract] EVALUATION AND MODIFICATION OF THE LIFECARE PLV-100 VENTILATOR IN THE HYPERBARIC ENVIRONMENT
Author: Schweyer, MA; Youn, BA; Gross, CE; Miller, ME
Abstract: BACKGROUND: The use of ventilators for mechanical ventilation of the intubated patient undergoing HBOT is well documented. To date the Penlon Oxford and Siemann Servo 900C have both shown to function well, but with limitations. METHODS: A study was undertaken by this institution to incorporate a transport ventilator in the HBO Environment. Criteria for consideration was based on four factors, 1) Safety in the environment, 2) performance under pressure, 3) ease of use for the inside tendors, 4) economic consideration for the department. The PLV-100 met the above criteria and therefore was selected and tested by SJMC. RESULTS: The PLV-100 is a microprocessor controlled electrically powered volume ventilator designed to function either with AC or DC current. The ventilator was pressurized and tested in the Control, Assist/Control, and SIMV mode between sea level -6 ATA. It islightweight, compact, and with minimal modification will function under pressure. This presentation will show the adaption and modifications for use in the HBO environment.
