Title: Neuropsychiatry for the flight surgeon.
Author: Mebane, JC
Abstract: The text emphasizes an understanding of the complex interpersonal and social problems of the Air Force environment, and their impact upon flyer and doctor alike. Certain topics have been amplified or introduced beyond their consideration in the 'Flight Surgeon's Manual' or in Air Force Manual 160-1 (Medical Examination): Clinical diagnosis and psychosomatic problems are reviewed in the military setting; the Adaptability Rating for Military Aeronautics is explained in detail; neurological problems and psychological reactions to flying stress are emphasized. The vitally important work of the Flight Surgeon in mental health is introduced. The presentations serve to clarify and refine the Flight Surgeon's responsibilities and practice, and are in essential agreement with official Air Force publications on these subjects.
