Title: The Quantity Of Light Produced By Red And Blue Filters Over Light Fixtures In Sonar Control Rooms
Author: Kinney, JAS
Abstract: Red and blue lights of the type used in sonar control rooms were matched in brightness to white light at the low levels of illumination commonly employed in operational conditions. Blue was judged considerably brighter than the red; this difference increased as the light level decreased. A theoretical analysis yielded the same result. The increase in the general level of room illumination should allow the men to see large objects and the room outline better and helps account for their preference for blue illumination.
