Title: The Belize Blue Hole Exploration Project.
Author: Tysall, TN
Abstract: In 1997 the Cambrian Foundation was privileged to conduct groundbreaking research dives in the Lighthouse Reef area of Belize. This expedition was a shining example of what can be accomplished when the two fields of Science and Diving work together. In the Foundation's pioneering role of bringing technical diving skills and methods to the world of science, this was but one of many projects the Cambrian Foundation has participated in, involving many different disciplines such as Archaeology, Marine Biology, Ecology, and Geology. It is the goal of this presentation to illustrate the vast potential of the marriage of Science and Technical Diving. Using the 1997 Blue Hole Project as the example, the presentation discusses various topics such as personnel, logistics, equipment, safety procedures, and methodology employed bringing this project to reality. The Blue Hole Project is discussed and compared with other projects the Foundation has participated in.
