Abstract

Scientific diving at UNCW involves research projects which span the southeastern United States, the Bahama Banks, Bermuda and the Gulf of Mexico. Projects conducted under the auspices of the National Undersea Research Center utilize mixed gas SCUBA techniques, underwater robots and research submersibles to safely extend scientist's bottom time and depth capabilities. Research projects which demand such sophisticated capabilities also present complex and unique management, regulatory, and safety issues.
