Title: Decompression Procedures for Normoxic Nitrogen-Oxygen Saturation Exposures

Abstract: These schedules have been designed for the efficient decompression of scientific personnel from saturation exposures to a normoxic oxygen-nitrogen breathing mixture at 22 to 100 fsw. The 1200 minute nitrogen half-time used in the calculation of these schedules was selected after analysis of the Hydrolab, Tektite I, Tektite II, and Flare decompression schedules. In the Tektite exposures, eye bubbles and decompression problems were encountered with schedules having an effective nitrogen half-time of 1100 minutes, while with a lengthened schedule based on an effective half-time of 1200 minutes no problems were encountered. The effective half-times for the Hydrolab and Flare dives were 1280 and 1660 minutes respectively. The schedules presented here are for use with, and have been based on the experiences of, scientist-divers, who vary widely in age and physical conditioning; therefore, it is not surprising that these schedules are longer than some which have been used successfully with commercial divers and young athletes. Less conservative tables which may be used by the professional diver are given on page 8.
