Title: Correspondence from VM Davis, Underwater Vision, on mask charts
Author: Davis, VM
Abstract: Letter barely legible. 24 March 1952 V.M. Davis, Chief, Bridging Accessories Section, Underwater Vision. Letter to (?J. Thomas Blair) Chief, Floating Equipment Design Branch. 1. Inclosed charts show the field of vision of the right eye in air and total vision underwater of various diving masks. The ? vision chart was curated from the other. Computations have not been checked. 2. The vision chart for the right eye was obtained by instrumentation using a light source in the right eye of a model average head. The head was reported mounted with the point ? between the eyes being opposite to the center of the chart. The ? normal vision indicates the eye is able to see at an angle greater than 90 degrees. If a flat lens were placed very near to the eye the ? curve would theoretically be limited to 90 degrees. This ? has been ? prior to computing the theoretical limit submerged. Work is underway to modify and improve the vision of the ? and ? make furnished for test. Incls 1. Army Chemical Center Vision Chart 2. Calculated Limit of vision.
