Title: The Calculation of Minimum Safe Inspired Gas Temperature Limits for Deep Diving.

Abstract: Loss of body heat through the lungs of divers breathing cold gas at depths greater than 600 feet can be lethal; no adequate guidelines to safe inspired gas temperature are currently available. Review of the recent research in hyperbaric respiratory heat loss has allowed the development of a rational method of calculating the minimum safe inspired gas temperatures for deep diving. In the report, the recent respiratory heat loss research is summarized, the rationale and calculations of safe breathing gas temperatures are presented, and minimum safe inspired gas temperature limits for depths from 600 to 1000 feet are proposed.
